AI IS NOT A TECHNOLOGY…
AND IT NEVER WAS
AI was born with Turing’s question “can machines think?”, and this is an essentially philosophical question. But many quickly transformed it in a more prosaic “can thinking be mechanized?”, reducing it to a maid to Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive Science.
Philosophy therefore cannot ignore Artificial Intelligence, whose themes and challenges are deeply intertwined with philosophical knowledge.
It is our deep belief that Artificial Intelligence, far from simply being a technology, is – in the words of von Clausewitz - "a continuation of Philosophy by other means."
AI must the be studied without renouncing philosophy’s traditional methods, and without giving up to the sirens of contemporary scientism. It is from these considerations that has originated the path here outlined in this website. The aim is to look at Artificial Intelligence with the tools of the philosophical tradition, and at the same time exercise a firm will to understand, beyond the satisfaction of technological success.
THE BOOK AND THE TEXTS
The heart of the speech outlined here is in the book "Artificial Intelligence as Philosophy", published in 2021 by Eliva Press, available for purchase online on this site. Since then I have continued to think around these subjects, trying to ask questions differently and with an authentic philosophical spirit.
On this page there are therefore shorter essays, hopefully equally interesting, which illustrate the consequences and derivatives of the book's thesis. The texts can be downloaded for free , over time others will be added as the work progresses.
